Northern District

This is Derek Walker.

Sometimes I call him my best friend, sometimes we lie and say we're siblings, sometimes I just take his order at Peet's (medium low fat iced mocha in a large cup- no whip).

Derek is a musician. He leads worship at Cornerstone Fellowship here in Livermore, and his most recent musical endeavor is a collaboration (not sure I'd really call it a band...) called Northern District. I voted for Northern Knives, but it's not my project so apparently my vote didn't count.

Northern Distrct doesn't have a website yet, but Derek just started a blog. Derek, the ever private songwriter is finally sharing a piece of himself and his songs with the mindless masses (and us).

This is great news. Derek is brilliant. Really. People say that about their friends. They love them so things sound better, but I am 99% sure that he really is brilliant. Yes, I love the guy, but he has a gift like I have never heard in real life before and I am proud to call him my friend.

Listen to his songs. You won't regret it.

Photo Mission: Bad Decision

Remember this place in the Dublin hills? I went about a year ago (on Good Friday, if I remember correctly) and got some great shots with my digi... I spent about an hour there before thinking, "Gee, no one knows where I am and this looks like a murder site. I'll go." (There was a totally creepy tarp covered car that seemed like something out of America's Most Wanted.)

I have been meaning to go back with a film camera and some back-up, but never got around to it when I was up here. Today was particularly gorgeous and I wasn't busy so I decided to stop by. I took a photo of some chairs lined up against the barn that weren't there last time I had stopped by. Then I heard it. Music. Coming out of the barn. It was like top 40 radio stuff. OMG. There was someone there. I got one more shot of the chairs and bailed as fast as I could. I mean, what if it was a murderer??

At least I lived to tell about it. Again.

International Post Secret Exhibit

I went to the Post Secret Exhibit at the Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek today (it's there until April 19). It was cool, though I like looking at the site better. It was sort of depressing and quiet in the gallery and since so many of the secrets are so sad, it was hard to be there. Not as cool as I thought it would be, but I am glad I went.
